Red Light Therapy
What is it
Red light therapy (RLT) is a treatment that uses low-level red or near-infrared light to improve healing, reduce inflammation, and boost skin and cell health.
It works by stimulating cellular energy (ATP) in your body. It’s non-invasive, generally safe, and painless, with few side effects.
Common Uses: skin rejuvenation (anti-aging, acne), pain and inflammation relief, hair growth, wound healing.
Is it safe
Red light therapy is generally considered safe when used correctly. It’s non-invasive, painless, and has very few side effects. That said, like any treatment, it’s not completely without risk.
Safe Use Tips:
Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines
(time, distance, frequency)
Don’t overexpose—more is not better
Use eye protection if light is near the eyes
Avoid using on open wounds or active skin infections without medical advice.
If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or take medications that make your skin sensitive to light (like some antibiotics or acne meds), it’s best to check with a doctor first.
Benefits
Red and near-infrared light (typically in the 600–1000 nm wavelength range) is absorbed by the mitochondria in cells.
This enhances cellular energy production (ATP), which may help with:
Reducing inflammation, promoting healing and tissue repair, stimulating collagen production, improving circulation
Common Uses:
Skin health (anti-aging, acne, wound healing)
Joint and muscle pain relief
Hair growth (e.g., in androgenic alopecia)
Reducing inflammation
Speeding up injury recovery
Improving mood and sleep (in some cases)
